COMMISSIONER JACK G. TRAVELSTEAD

VIRGINIA MARINE RESOURCES COMMISSION


Jack has been with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission since March 1981.  He was appointed to the post of Acting Commissioner on March 22, 2012.  He was then appointed as the Commissioner on April 30, 2012 by Governor Robert F. McDonnell.

Commissioner Travelstead has spent most of his career in Fisheries Management.  He served as the Fisheries Chief from July 1984 to his appointment as Acting Commissioner.

He earned Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Old Dominion University and a Master’s of Art in Marine Science at the College of William and Mary.

Jack's hobbies include hiking, freshwater fishing and racing homing pigeons.
