Public Notice: Pertaining to Grey Trout (Weakfish)

NOTICE

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on adoption of a proposed amendment to Regulation 4 VAC 20-380-10 et seq. "Pertaining to Grey Trout (Weakfish)", as a permanent part of this regulation.

The proposed amendment would revise the current minimum size limit (12 inches) and possession limit of 4 grey trout, for the recreational fishery. Various combinations of potential minimum size and possession limits, including the current 12 inch minimum size and 4-fish possession limits are shown below. In addition to a single combination of minimum size and possession limits, the Commission will consider the establishment of more than one combination of minimum size and possession limits for the grey trout fishing season.

In accordance with §28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of one or more of the proposed combinations of minimum size and possession limits will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed, to Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, P. O. Box 756, Newport News, VA 23607. A copy of the proposed regulation may be reviewed at the Commission during Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 P.M. Persons interested in obtaining a copy of the proposed regulation may call the Commission at (757) 247-2248.

Purpose: The purpose of the proposed amendment to this regulation is to provide for more equitable allocation of the grey trout resource among recreational fishermen.
