Public Notice:  Proposed Regulations, April 2014

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on the establishment of amendments to regulations, as proposed below.  By April 7, 2014, the proposed draft regulations can be viewed at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. 

In accordance with Section 28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the proposed regulation will be held at 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia.  Written comments on the proposals should be provided to Robert L. O�Reilly, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607, by 12:00 p.m., Monday April 21, 2014. 

I.  Chapter 4VAC20-1230-10 et seq., �Pertaining to Restrictions on Shellfish�

The Commission will consider proposals designed to improve shellfish warm-water, harvesting restrictions during the months of May through September.  Mainly, amendments to this regulation are to ensure that restrictions pertaining to pre-harvesting, harvesting, post-harvesting, and handling procedures during May through September are specified accurately for compliance. 

The purpose of these amendments is to safeguard public health.


II.  Chapter 4VAC20-950-10 et seq., �Pertaining to Black Sea Bass�

The Commission proposes to establish the 2014 recreational season and possession limit for black sea bass.  The possession limit will be 15 fish.  The open season will be from May 19 through September 18 and October 18 through December 31. 

The purpose of this amendment is to comply with the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for this species.
