Public Notice: Pertaining to Commercial Fishing and Mandatory Harvest Reporting

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) invites public comment on a proposed amendment to Regulation 4VAC20-610-10 et seq., as shown below.

In accordance with §28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on this proposal will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at the office of the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, 4th Floor, Newport News, Virginia. Any interested persons may offer testimony. PROPOSED AMENDMENT:

4 VAC 20-610-10 et seq. "Pertaining to Commercial Fishing and Mandatory Harvest Reporting"

The Commission proposes the following amendment to the regulation:

1. The owner of any purse seine vessel or bait seine vessel (snapper rig) licensed under provisions of §28.2 - 402 of the Code of Virginia shall submit the Captain's Daily Fishing Reports (CDFRs) to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), in accordance with provisions of the Interstate Fishery Management Plan of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for Atlantic Menhaden. The CDFRs shall be those forms provided by the NMFS and shall be submitted in a manner consistent with the requirements of the NMFS.

This proposed amendment is in conformance with the interstate fishery management plan for Atlantic menhaden.
