Public Notice: POUND NET NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-25-10 ET SEQ., PERTAINING TO POUND NET SITING PUBLIC INTEREST REVIEW" requires that there be an opportunity for public comment on new pound net locations that are requested for licensing by commercial fishermen.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each specific notice ends approximately 30 days from the date posted on this web site.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to determine when a specific comment period ends.  Send comments/inquiries within 30 days of the date a notice is posted to: Marine Resources Commission, Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

Note: notices below this point are beyond the 30 day comment period and are provided only as a reference of new pound net licensing activity. Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

November 4, 2010:  Notice is hereby given that Keith Like of Cape Charles, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay.  The first net is to be located in Chesapeake Bay, approximately 3.4 miles north of Wescoat Point at Cherrystone Inlet and off the shore at Savage Neck.  The offshore end of this net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 20.58 Minutes N. and Longitude 076 Degrees 0.48 Minutes W.  The second net is to be located about 0.14 miles to the north of the first net at Latitude 37 Degrees 20.73 Minutes N. and Longitude 076 Degrees 0.24 Minutes W.

May 14, 2010:  Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Northampton County, in Chesapeake Bay, northwest of the concrete ships at Kiptopeke at 37 Degrees 10.50 Minutes  N latitude and 76 Degrees 00.25 Minutes  W longitude. 

May 14, 2010: 
Notice is hereby given that Kenneth T. Heath of Townsend, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets on the western shore of Fisherman Island in Northampton County. The first net will be located 6000 feet north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel at 37 Degrees 06.309 Minutes  N latitude and 75 Degrees 58.979 Minutes  W longitude. The second net will be located 4000 feet north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel at 37 Degrees 05.958 Minutes  N latitude and 75 Degrees 58.948 Minutes  W longitude.

March 30, 2010:  Notice is hereby given that Thomas Moore of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Chesapeake Bay, approximately 3200 yards north of Dividing Creek, at N 37 Degrees 44.53 Minutes  latitude and W. 76 Degrees 17.55 Minutes  longitude. The net is proposed to be 1200 feet in length and in the same line, within 250 feet, with an existing pound net.

March 3, 2010: 
Notice is hereby given that Andrew W. Self of Reedville has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Chesapeake Bay, approximately 2200 feet east of Gaskin Pond in 15 feet of water, at N 37 Degrees 51 Minutes  38 Seconds  latitude and W 76 Degrees 14 Minutes  15 Seconds  longitude. The net is proposed to be 1200 feet in length.

March 3, 2010:  Notice is hereby given that Thomas D. Gaskins of Reedville has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Chesapeake Bay, approximately 5400 feet from the nearest shoreline and 7600 feet southeast of Smith Point at 37 Degrees 52.24 Minutes  N latitude and 76 Degrees 13.45 Minutes  W longitude. The net is proposed to be 1200 feet in length.

March 3, 2010:  Notice is hereby given that Russell W. Gaskins of Irvington has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net on the north shore of the Rappahannock River, approximately 1800 yards NNW and upriver of the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge at 37 Degrees 38.23 Minutes  N latitude and 76 Degrees 25.58 Minutes  W longitude. The net is proposed to be 1200 feet in length.

February 9, 2010: 
Notice is hereby given that Paul H. Somers of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Chesapeake Bay, approximately one half mile Southwest of North Point Beacon at Fleets Bay at N 37 Degrees 38 Minutes  54 Seconds  Latitude and W 076 Degrees 18 Minutes  45 Seconds  Longitude. The net will be located in a water depth of 23 feet.

January 7, 2010: 
Notice is hereby given that Patrick Haynie Smith of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in Chesapeake Bay, approximately 3300 yards northeast of Number 4 Buoy at Dividing Creek and 1700 yards from shore. The offshore end of the net is to be located at N 37 Degrees 44 Minutes  16.2 Seconds  latitude and W. 076 Degrees 17 Minutes  13.6 Seconds  longitude. The net is proposed to be 1200 feet in length.
